WEA Trust to Stop Offering Health Insurance in 2023

WEA Trust, who currently provides health coverage options to some employer groups and State of WI employees/retirees, will stop as of December 31, 2022.

Health Traditions 65Plus Medigap policy holders will receive guaranteed issue rights to select another Medigap policy. Guaranteed issue rights start when you receive the notice of termination and continues for 63 days after the loss of coverage (through March 4, 2023). Beneficiaries wanting to switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan can during the annual Medicare Open Enrollment Period (OEP) from Oct. 15 – Dec. 7.

WEA – Med Plus offers fee-for-service health insurance coverage. It is not a Medigap policy, so beneficiaries will not receive guaranteed issue rights to choose a Medigap policy. Beneficiaries may try to buy a Medigap policy at any time but are subject to health underwriting. Beneficiaries who want to switch to a Medicare Advantage plan after their WEA – Med Plus coverage ends will need to do so during the OEP from Oct. 15 – Dec. 7.

WEA did not offer any type of creditable drug coverage. Beneficiaries may be assessed a late enrollment penalty if they decide to enroll into a Medicare Part D plan, including the Medicare Advantage plans that include drug coverage. Beneficiaries with WEA through their employer should connect with their benefit department to learn more about their plan options.
