WISE Program: Participant Testimonial

by | Jul 31, 2023 | Blog

For the past 10 years, I was the only family caregiver and “geriatric care manager” for my husband, diagnosed with vascular dementia and Parkinson’s disease after he suffered a massive stroke. Several months after his passing away, I began to reach out for opportunities to get active in the Green Bay community, as well as get back to work.

I was finding it hard to find employment, though I had a great deal of experience in administration. The lack of employment interviews and opportunities was influencing my self-esteem and confidence in finding work. I came to the WISE program through a referral from the Brown County Aging & Disability Resource Center.

After interviewing with the WISE Green Bay team, I was invited to join WISE as a participant assistant helping other WISE participants through job search coaching, skills training, and arranging for our participants to access other community resources while upgrading and strengthening my administrative management skills. I love coming in every day and having the opportunity to help others. The WISE program has had a profound effect on me, so much that my employment goal now is to find a job in the nonprofit sector, preferably in the Title V-SCSEP arena.

I feel WISE is an outstanding program for those like me wanting to upgrade their skills and get their experience back to work.
