Resource Corner: Stuck at Home

by | Nov 30, 2020 | Blog

Winters in Wisconsin pretty much guarantee that we will have one, if not two, events where you could be stuck at home for a day or two. Snow, ice, and extreme cold can make getting out and about impossible. You could be down for a couple of days due to illness. It could be a couple of weeks in the case of a community health emergency. Whatever reason you are stuck at home, it’s good to have supplies in the house that can see you through a few days, or even a couple of weeks, of staying at home.

Planning for Staying Home:
Periodically check your regular prescription drugs to ensure a continuous supply in your home.
Have any non-prescription drugs and other health supplies on hand, including pain relievers, stomach remedies, cough and cold medicines, diabetic and/or oxygen supplies, etc. Talk to family and friends about what you might need and who could assist. Things like picking up groceries, bringing over or making meals, snow shoveling, bringing health supplies, etc.

What should I pack to get ready for being stuck at home? Get prepared with a 3-Day Emergency Supply Kit, which includes a collection of basic items your household may need in the event of an emergency.
There are additional Be Prepared-Winter Safety Tips available on the Wisconsin Department of Health Services’ Winter Weather toolkit,
www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/publications.
Tips include ways to prevent hypothermia or frostbite, extreme temperatures, indoor safety during winter storms, appropriate apparel during winter weather, and suggestions for winter driving.
