ADRC Volunteer Spotlight: Michael Conley-Kuhagen (MCK)

by | Jan 31, 2023 | Blog, Volunteer

We know someone you’ve got to meet! His name is Michael, but he goes by MCK. He has been a volunteer with ADRC for 4 years and going. He said he enjoys volunteering at ADRC because he always feels welcomed and supported.

MCK started with ADRC as a Front Desk Ambassador, assisting customers with the welcoming smile he always wears. The front desk staff loved working with him!

He then took his talents to ADRC’s Board of Directors where he currently serves as the Board Secretary. He attends some of the board meetings virtually due to his full schedule. To say MCK is a busy person would be an understatement! Along with his role at ADRC, he is actively involved in several other boards and committees in the community. He serves on the Board of Directors for Human Services, is a Transit Commissioner on the Transit Commission for Green Bay, gives his time to the Governor’s Counsel for Persons with Disabilities, assists other residents in the building he resides in as a back-up resident manager, and is employed part-time with the area YMCAs. Whew – we don’t know if the word “busy” even encompasses everything on his plate!

MCK has lived all over the state of Wisconsin but has always held a role in human services. He holds an associates degree from Madison Technical College and a bachelor’s degree specializing in Human Services with an emphasis in Social Work from Upper Iowa University. Since 1999, he has been a certified Social Worker.

MCK is a big kid at heart and enjoys making people laugh. He loves animals and has been part of many animal rescue organizations. When he has a bit of down time, he spends time with his 18-year-old cat, Sam. When grabbing his favorite bite to eat, he goes for Italian food.

In closing, MCK sites his motto as, “Yes I can.” When he was in high school, he won the Ray A Kroc Yes I Can Award from the McDonald’s Corporation. Since then, he always tries to live his life with a can-do attitude. Things may be difficult from time to time, but he doesn’t give up.

Thank you, MCK, from every one of us at ADRC. When we count our lucky stars, we count you twice!
